When did you start CrossFit?
I started consistent attendance about 4 months ago.
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Coaching and playing sports.
What's your favorite part about CrossFit?
Coach Sam trying to force me into unnatural positions to test my pain threshold (she calls it stretching). Actually, I love having a coach to keep me motivated and programming that I can trust so all I have to do is show up. Exercising with people who are all just trying to improve their health and fitness is awesome and for some reason when I am suffering with a group it somehow tricks me into thinking it is fun.
Favorite workout and/or movement/exercise/lift?
I grew up doing the old school football lifts; deadlift, squat and bench press so I’m good at those lifts but I really enjoy learning and improving on new movements.
How has CrossFit helped/positively affected your life outside the gym?
As a parent of two young boys and a youth sports coach I think it is important that I provide a positive example of health and fitness to my sons and my players and Crossfit helps me do that.
What is your proudest CF related accomplishment?
500 lb deadlift and I taught myself how to do double-unders in my garage over a weekend.
What are your future CF related goals?
I want to increase my flexibility and improve on all of the gymnastics movements. Basically become a ninja.
If you were to say something to a new joining member, what advice would you give?
Don’t be worried about the numbers on the board. Smile, have fun and get sweaty.
Freestyle section: anything else you want to add?
Hopefully I can get to know more of the early and late class members but I’ll take this opportunity to give a shout-out to the 3:30 crew that keeps me motivated, laughing and holds me accountable for being there.
Also, to Sam and Brooke and anyone else who coaches the youth classes. I’m not sure what you’re getting paid but it’s probably not enough. Your energy and patience is off the charts. Those kids have so much fun and are learning the importance of a healthy lifestyle at an early age. Thank you!
