When did you start Crossfit? I started Crossfit in July of 2014. I had been running and bike riding for several years, but I was looking for something more. It had been 35 years since I lifted weights in high school and I decided to give Crossfit a try. I am glad I did.
What's your favorite part about CrossFit? My favorite part about Crossfit is the people. Everyone is friendly and supportive. I also like the constant challenges. With the varied workouts, it never gets boring.
Favorite workout and/or movement/exercise/lift? I like rowing. It is one exercise where being tall is an advantage.
How has CrossFit helped/affected your life outside the gym? I have gotten stronger, especially my upper body and core. This makes the "honey do" jobs around the house much easier. Being in better shape makes the hiking and mountain biking more fun. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the Paleo diet has been good. I am not as strict as some, but I have still been able to loss fat and add muscle. The regular exercise and good diet from Crossfit has helped me set a good example for my two teenage sons. Although, they don’t always follow the example.
What is your proudest CF related accomplishment? Last week I was able to dead lift 315 lbs and snatch 100 lbs. When I started I wouldn’t have thought that this was possible. I feel like I have accomplished something every time I finish a workout.
What are your future CF related goals? I don’t really have any specific goals other than to keep working out. I just don’t want to be too far behind the 20, 30 and 40 somethings. It is fun trying to keep up with the younger crowd.
Final advice for someone getting ready to join? There is always someone that is stronger and faster with more endurance. Don’t be afraid. After you have learned a few of the skills, then you can keep up. There is so much variety that there is something that everyone is good at. The trainers at Crossfit Anacortes are great. They are knowledgeable, patient, and supportive.
Freestyle section: My favorite trainer is who ever is there on any given day.
