When did you start Crossfit?
I began November 2014.
What's your favorite part about CrossFit?
What I appreciate most about CrossFit is the challenge. Every day is different, and I work new muscles all the time. The variety is exciting! It keeps me on my toes, motivated and always trying new things. The environment is encouraging, I have never experienced cameraderie quite like CrossFit before. The individualized attention and positive energy at the gym always lifts me up to be better and do better.
Favorite workout and/or movement/exercise/lift?
The squats, GHD machines, and the kettle bells (of course!)
How has CrossFit helped/affected your life outside the gym?
It's been a very bonding experience with my husband and son, Joe and Westin, who encouraged me to start crossfit in the beginning. Coming off of heart surgery 15 months ago, I never saw myself as particularly "athletic" or "hardcore" at all so to begin something like this was intimidating and completely out of my comfort zone. With encouragement from my family and friends, and my new friends at the gym, I have been held accountable and exceeded my own expectations. My family and I are very proud of my progress and accomplishments and it is a very positive activity for us all to do together.
What is your proudest CF related accomplishment?
Since joining crossfit, I have a lot more energy in my day to day life. I can see a huge difference since I have devleoped more muslce mass which has given me confidence in other areas of my life. Feeling stronger helps me to go for it, and to see that pushing through the soreness is difficult but definitely worth it.
What are your future CF related goals?
I always get assistance from the training team to scale my workouts to make sure it works best for my body and my ability level. My goal is to do less and less scaling as time moves forward, and to be able to do complete more RX workouts.
My family and I love supporting our trainers, who have also become our friends, and watching them compete in competitions. It's fun to see the high level of excellence, strength and determination in the competitors and the sense of community between everyone. We're looking forward to going to more competitions this year!
